Humanin
Also known as HN, Humanin-G (HNG — more potent analog)
Humanin is a mitochondria-derived peptide encoded in the 16S rRNA of mitochondrial DNA. It plays a protective role in aging, neurodegeneration, and metabolic disease — with levels shown to correlate with longevity in centenarian families.
How it works
Binds multiple receptors including gp130, FPRL1, and intracellular IGFBP3 to block apoptosis signaling pathways. Also activates STAT3 and reduces mitochondrial dysfunction.
Benefits
- Cytoprotective — protects cells from apoptosis and oxidative stress
- Neuroprotective — shown to reduce Alzheimer's-related pathology in animal models
- Improves insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism
- Reduces vascular inflammation
- Correlates with longevity in human studies
Dosing
100–500 mcg · 3–5x per week
Very limited human data. HNG analog reportedly 1000x more potent than HN.
